S. MICHAEL THURMAN, DMD

Dr. Thurman was born in Atlanta, GA and attended public school there. He attended AB Davidson College in 1961 where he earned his baccalaureate degree in economics in 1965. After college, Dr. Thurman received a Regular U.S. Army commission and attained the rank of Captain. He commanded a missile battery in Germany and served one year in Vietnam. Following his four year tour of duty, Dr. Thurman attended MUSC where he received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine. Dr. Thurman has been practicing dentistry in Mt. Pleasant, SC for over 37 years. He served as the President of the South Carolina Academy of General Dentistry from 2000-2001, and was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1996. He is also an active member of the American Dental Association. Since 1990, Dr. Thurman has volunteered his time and dental skills to the East Cooper Community Outreach (E.C.C.O.) Indigent Care division and will be traveling to Haiti in May to provide free dentistry to the victims of the recent earthquake.

He and his wife, Ellen, are active members of the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and have 5 lovely children and 5 adoring grandchildren, two of which were born just this year. Dr. Thurman and his wife reside on Sullivan's Island in Charleston, SC.
